What do I do when a death occurs? (Back to Top)
The staff of DeVoe Funeral Service are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred and sixty-five days of the year. After a death has occurred (whether it be in a hospital, nursing home, residence, or out of state,) notify the funeral home immediately. We will make arrangements for the dignified removal of the deceased from the place of death to the Funeral Home, and set up a time to make the final arrangements.

Some items that you should bring to the conference regarding the deceased are:
• Name As Used On All Legal Documents
• Date and Place of Birth
• Social Security Number
• Father's Name
• Mother's Maiden Name
• Clothing for Deceased
• Recent Photo if Available
• Copy of Discharge Papers if Deceased was a Veteran
• Cemetery Deed if Applicable

A funeral is an opportunity for relatives, friends and neighbors to reflect upon and celebrate the life of the deceased and gain personal closure. It is an important ritual which has been practiced by all cultures since the beginning of time. Every culture performs different ceremonies, but the idea of using a funeral as closure to one's earthly life is universal. We at DeVoe Funeral Service pride ourselves in serving all cultures and faiths. Whether it be a traditional funeral or something more unique, our family and staff will attend to your family's wishes with dignity and respect.

A funeral director handles all the details and necessary arrangements associated with the death of a loved one. Since 1915, the DeVoe family has been serving Warren County and the surrounding area. President, Manager and Director, Mark M. DeVoe continues this tradition today. From the moment of notification, our caring staff will guide you through every step of the process. From the dignified removal to the funeral Service, we will handle all the necessary paperwork, file any and all permits, notify and arrange for all services (compose obituary notices, notify clergy, arrange for the cemetery, dressing, cosmetic, casketing, compose a Life-Celebration Video, etc.) We are available to you and your family twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year.

What about Social Security?

The funeral home will notify Social Security that the death has occurred. If there is a surviving spouse, he or she is entitled to a one time death benefit. Additionally, other benefits may be in order, for instance, benefits for minor children or the deceased. The funeral home will guide you through the process of applying for veterans' benefits and arranging for military honors. Depending on years served, reason for discharge, wounded in action status, etc., veterans are be eligible for different benefits. Contact us, and one of the directors will help you with your individual needs.
